We have a unique opportunity to visit two of Stroudwater Textile Trust’s sites, Dunkirk Mill Museum and Gigg Mill Weaving Shed. This is a self-travel event and we would suggest, where possible, attendees car share because parking at Dunkirk Mill is limited (4 spaces).

Dunkirk Mill, where cloth was ‘fulled’, has an operational water wheel that powers the machinery. It is a wonderful site to behold, but does mean that the Mill can be a bit noisy. There is a limited amount of parking on site.

Gigg Mill Weaving Shed is located on the hill above Nailsworth. It has ample parking, but there is a short walk on footpath from the parking area to the entrance.

24 places are available for the trip and the group would be split in two as each site can only hold twelve guests. We will inform participants of which group they are in nearer the time. The tours will start at 11am and at 2pm. We will break for lunch between 12 and 2pm. Those who wish to can walk between the sites, taking the footpath from Dunkirk Mill to Nailsworth (approximately 20 minutes walk into the town centre, then a 15 minute walk from the town centre up to Gigg Mill).

The Egypt Mill pub in Nailsworth has been suggested as a good location for lunch, although it would be advisible to book. There are a large number of other cafes in Nailsworth catering to all tastes.

Cost per person : FoTW members £22, non-members £24
