Textiles literally touch our lives everyday and when we start to look at textile history more closely it reveals a complex and deep social, economic and political history. This talk will look at some of the treasured items of textiles hidden at The Wilson and seeks to look beyond the domestic and decorative nature of these items to the stories behind their production, the values that impacted on their designs and to see these pieces as complex objects that record and portray the lives of the makers.

Jo Teague is a freelance community artist and curator who works with a variety of organisations to support communities to explore their culture and heritage through creative textile projects. Her passion for the history of textiles is infectious, opening up conversations about the fabrics that touch our lives every day. She is currently working with Voices Gloucester to curate and grow the successful Threads programme into an annual event.
