What would happen if you visited every Anglican Cathedral in England? And then throw in all the Catholic ones too for good measure? And whilst you are about it, do the Welsh ones too? You’d have travelled 6000 miles, got up at 5am far too often and taken over 10,000 photos in over 70 locations. From St David’s to Canterbury, from Newcastle to Carlisle and all points in between.
This is exactly what Marcus Green, a management consultant and charity Chief Executive from Stroud, set himself as a challenge for 2019 and he completed the lot. “This completely bonkers idea became a mission that had to be fulfilled, it was never a formal pilgrimage, but it was a deeply moving experience which gave me time and space to reflect and learn more about the fabric of our country. “Our cathedrals are the backbone of our history, from battles to great occasions, from bad behaviour to glorious choirs, they have it all, but really this is the story of the people who work in them, who volunteer and who visit, they all impacted on my travels and made me realise the wonder we have under our very noses.

“So what happened afterwards? The Association of English Cathedrals asked me to write some blog posts and I was asked to provide the photos for “Britain’s Pilgrim Places” by Nick Mayhew Smith and Guy Hayward. “The book is stunning, it is one for car, the coffee table ot the loo, it demands to be enjoyed!”
