Winchcombe Pottery, has shaped studio ceramics through Michael Cardew’s pioneering work, its production ware, and under Ray Finch, its training legacy. This talk will explore Winchcombe’s story from the early kiln disasters to wonderful handmade pots for every day. Along the way it will explore its international links, and its customers, from Gordon Russell to Cranks restaurants.


Helen Brown worked at The Wilson from 1986 to 2013, and curated the first ever Winchcombe Pottery exhibition at the museum in 1998. In recent years she has continued her interest in studio pottery curating exhibitions in at Bristol Museum, and on Michael Cardew and the Leach Pottery at Court Barn. She is involved in exhibitions to celebrate the Winchcombe Centenary this summer. She is a Trustee of the Edgeler Collection in Winchcombe.
